Encourage the council to not raise council tax next April by halting non-essential spending

I would urge everyone to write to their County and local town Council to encourage spending on non-essential projects to be delayed to ensure that council tax does not need to increase next April. Currently there is talk of cycling routes and updating play areas which is all very nice but high council tax to pay for these things when people are struggling with rising costs.

Why the contribution is important

The ideas on this discussion around how we can personally save money are great but if we can cut costs on one of the largest household bills that would be the best thing to help people.

The problem with this suggestion is that different people have different views on what is 'essential'. I think improving cycling facilities are essential to reducing traffic, and CO2e emissions.
Perhaps the council could focus on efficiency.

I work in the private sector and due to the market the company I work for has halted all international travel, recruitment and other non urgent spending. There maybe a lot of people at my workplace who would argue that recruitment is essential to support overstretched teams, but the company has made a very difficult decision to halt this understanding that yes recruitment is important but not right now. I would like local authorities to do the same, especially as this could help towards the largest household bill for a lot of people being council tax, especially as they have been given free reign to increase this by up to 5%. Postponing non-essential spending to limit the rise in council tax is a positive way the county council can practically help all households during this crisis.
