Tip - subsidise essential services by charging more for parking

Link parking income to funding of essential services so that increased parking revenue subsidises services like social care. You could make it so there was no net disadvantage to the most vulnerable, i.e. any increase in parking charges was offset by cheaper access to wellbeing services.

Why the contribution is important

This model would reward those able to choose to travel sustainably, whilst maintaining a funding source, having wide reaching benefits for society like reducing inactivity, improving local air quality and increasing access to wellbeing services for the most disadvantaged.

This would stop people using car parks, businesses to close down and then loss of business rate hire etc. Terrible idea for the local economy and very short sighted. Parking also unlikely to equal the cost of limited public service availability which isnt available in huge parts of warwickshire and has limited availability

I think could work if well thought through. It would need to apply to car parks on the out of town shopping areas too, otherwise the net result will just be to drive people out of the town centre.

If encouraging people to move to sustainable transport more, need to provide an answer to how will people carry their shopping without a car?
